For 38 years, Heritage House has honoured the dignity and individuality of every resident on historic Abercorn Street in the heart of Savannah, Georgia.
Our Founding Story
In 1987, Dr. James Whitmore — a geriatric physician who had spent thirty years serving the families of Savannah — made a decision that would change everything. When his mother required residential care, he was dismayed by the cold, institutional options available to her.
Together with his wife Constance, he converted their historic Abercorn Street property into what would become Heritage House: a place where the warmth of Southern hospitality and the rigour of excellent medical care would exist as one.

Why Families Choose Us
Nearly four decades of service to Savannah families has built a reputation for integrity, warmth, and clinical excellence that no marketing campaign can manufacture.
From our chapel to our culinary dining programme, every aspect of life at Heritage House is designed to nourish body, mind, and spirit.
We believe families are not visitors — they are partners. Our open-door policy, family portal, and regular care conferences keep loved ones genuinely connected.
"Moving Mother to Heritage House was the most difficult decision our family ever made. Within a fortnight, it was also clearly the best. The staff know her name, her history, and what makes her laugh. That is not a small thing."
Daily Life
Life at Heritage House is rich with purpose, connection, and joy. Our activities programme draws on the cultural traditions of Savannah — from garden tours to live music on the verandah — and offers something meaningful for every resident.
We welcome personal tours seven days a week. Come and meet our team, walk our grounds, and see why families have trusted us for 38 years.
